Gitte and I went away for a long weekend in Stockholm from the 19th to 22nd of May this year. The flight was free since Gitte had earned enough SAS airmiles from her trips to Mexico to pay for it. Since the flights were free we splashed out a bit on a 4 star hotel right in the city. Stockholm is a really nice city, the architecture is very similar to Copenhagen of course, but because the city is spread across 14 islands it has a very spacious feel to it. Prices there are about the same as Copenhagen ( expensive by normal standards ), except for alcohol which is very expensive, the government controls all alcohol sales and you have to go to state run shops to buy anything stronger than beer so the prices are fixed very high. Now I can see why the Swedes come over to Denmark to stock up on cheap booze.

We mostly just wandered around the main centre and the old city ( Gamla Stan ), and did some shopping but we did make it to one museum where the ship, the Vasa, is preserved. The ship sank on its maiden voyage in 1682, only a few minutes from port while the crowds were cheering, killing 30 to 50 of the crew. It was salvaged in 1961 and is now preserved in the Vasa museum, very impressive to see and a very embarrassing story for the Swedes at the time.
